343 of the 567 AI job ads we read name LLMs. 273 name no programming language at all.

By the Glassbox team · the week of 12 October 2026 · a four minute read

This story keeps to one week, 12 October 2026. The AI page starts a new count every Monday.

567 pieces inside

An AI job comes in a box. The front says AI in the biggest letters the printer had. The side of the box says what is in it.

We counted 569 AI jobs at 269 employers in the week of 12 October 2026. 567 of them were long enough to read; the other 2 (569 − 567) were not. We read the side of all 567 and printed the count the way a packet prints its ingredients.

We read the side.

The front of a box is a claim. The side is a list. Each line on this label is a skill and how many of the 567 jobs name it. Tap a line and that many pieces light up on the counter.

Ingredients

Of the 567 AI jobs we could read, the number that name each skill. A job can name several, so the shares don't add up to 100.

* Share only. The weekly page gives no count for this line, so it doesn't light.

Each piece is one of the 567 AI jobs we could read. One line lights at a time: the count knows how many jobs name a skill, not which jobs name two. Lines that give only a share stay unlit, because the weekly page gives no count for them.

May contain no code.

273of the 567 jobs name no programming language in the ad.

294 of the 567 name at least one language, so 567 − 294 = 273 name none. 165 name two or more.

A job that names no language may still involve code. We count the words in the ad, not the work. On the label, this line sits in a box of its own. Tap it and 273 pieces turn grey and hatched: the count knows how many, not which.

What came out.

The weekly page lists 30 of the 569 titles, one employer at a time. Here are ten of them, on the slips they came with.

Titles and employers as the weekly page lists them, without the (m/w/d) tags and city brackets. Never the ads. “Asks 3 years” is the number of years the ad states.

One box. A compiler engineer, a seminar trainer, a category manager, a governance engineer and a head of data. The front says AI on every one of them.

Serving suggestion.

The back of the box carries the small print: what level the jobs are, and how many years they ask for.

Senior means a senior, lead or principal level. Hatched: the job states no level, or no number of years. Lime: the most common ask.

349 of the 569 AI jobs are senior, lead or principal. 5 to 7 years is the most common ask: 120 of the 289 jobs that state a number. The other 280 don't say.

Made in.

Hatched: the job names no country we can read. Countries one by one are too few to show.

219 of the 569 jobs name a place in the US and 215 a place elsewhere. Of the five pages we count, this is the only one where elsewhere nearly matches the US.

229 of the 569 are remote, 40%. That is the highest remote share of the five pages: entry level software 15%, software engineering 31%, machine learning 37%, DevOps 35%.

So what is in the box?

Whatever the side says. In the week of 12 October 2026: LLMs in 343 of the 567 jobs we could read, Python in 258, AI agents in 220, and no programming language at all in 273. The front says AI on all of them.

Curious how many of these skills are already on your CV?

One week, 12 October 2026. The AI page counts again on Monday.

How we counted

This page counts the AI jobs: titles that name AI, LLMs or generative AI. Titles that name machine learning have their own page.

The job type comes from the title. Senior means a senior, lead or principal level in the same job type.

We look for about 250 named skills, by fixed rules, in the 567 ads long enough to read. The other 2 were too short.

Lines on the label that show only a share come from the weekly page's chart of skills beyond the languages, which publishes shares. We don't turn a share into a count, so those lines don't light.

The jobs come from public job boards, read every six hours: employers' own boards on Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever and Workable, and job sites such as Remote OK, Remotive, Arbeitnow, Jobicy, Himalayas and We Work Remotely. Each job counts once, however many boards or cities list it.

What we can't see: jobs on boards we don't read, and jobs never posted in public; skills a job names in words that aren't on our list; whether a job is filled, how many people apply, or who gets hired.
